LIMITATIONS

Known limitations

- Extraction is best-effort: PDF reads the text layer only (scanned documents need OCR); legacy Office requires the LibreOffice service; complex layouts keep text order but not visual structure. Corrupted or incompletely uploaded OOXML (no ZIP central directory) fails with a clear error and must be re-exported. - Retrieval is local keyword/summary matching with **no vector embeddings**; suitable for hundreds of notes, not for large-scale semantic search. - Distillation quality and speed depend on the configured default model; very long documents are distilled from roughly the first 192k characters and marked `truncated: true` in the front matter. - Local shared storage uses a cross-process lock for index updates across profiles on the same machine. No team collaboration, cloud sync or note-body revision history. Lock recovery requires a confirmed exited local owner; an unverifiable owner causes a timeout instead of stealing the lock. - Harness 0.2.1-rc.3 hardcodes Settings nav icons; third-party Settings sections fall back to a gear, so the plugin uses the supported sidebar knowledge icon as its primary entry (see FAQ). - No automated UI visual regression tests yet; the v1.8.4 changes still need a real Harness GUI walkthrough.
